Good morning everyone. It is 5:30 AM, so I apologize for any miss spellings and such. I wanted to get to this last night before going to bed, but sleep prevailed. Our chickens are laying eggs again!! Through all of December, and most of January they had stopped laying. But in the last week or so we have gotten about half a dozen. Yesterday, when my wife went out to feed them and check their water and look for eggs, she got a surprise, a very small one. The world’s smallest chicken egg! Really it looks more like a quail’s egg, but we have no quails!! We have no idea which of our chickens laid this small orb. Regardless, all of us, including the chickens I am sure, are glad to have the sun around a little bit more each day. We are not done with winter yet, but I can almost see spring on the horizon!! Peace & Cheers!

Oh I so jealous that your hens have started to lay again. I have two who squat every time we walk by so know it isn’t far away. I take even micro eggs. Congrats on your hens laying again.
You reminded me of my own history with egg laying. When I was in third or fourth grade we had a couple of young hens ready to lay eggs but try as we could we couldn’t find the eggs. One day we set out to check the entire yard ( we lived in Phoenix near the desert) and finally found three beautiful eggs hidden in a depression under a shovel! I enjoyed the post.
Yes, it is wonderful getting eggs again! In the summer when they are laying every day and a half we are almost set for eggs. They for stopping by to read!!
It’s good to see a sign of winter on the way out. This time of year I get desperate for them. Hope they lay a few big ones soon!
Hey Jeff – Its funny, all the other eggs have been normal sized ones, this small one truly perplexes me!! And when it got cracked open, there was no yolk, just whites!!??
I’m happy to here your chickens are laying eggs again. The readers on my blog at http://www.kernschickenfarm.com say their hens are starting to lay eggs as well. I love to hear when people hens start laying again. It means breakfast is going to be even better now.
